5 Minute Skincare and 5 Minute Makeup Routine – The Fitnessista

Sharing an updated skincare and makeup routine that’s perfect for beginners.

Hello friends! How’s the day going? I hope you had a wonderful weekend. P had a soccer game, I taught a barre class, we watched a movie and roasted a chicken, and met Famine for dinner. Today, I’m studying for the IHP in the morning (I’m more than half way through level two!) and taking a hot yoga class.

For today’s post, I want to share my most recent skincare and makeup routine. I’ve had a few requests lately and I think I’ve found a groove with the products and have been liking many of them over the years. It’s funny because I went into writing this post thinking I’m a major minimalist, but after writing all that, it seems like a lot of products! So while I use a lot of *stuff*, everything has a purpose, and my routine is speedy. This has to be with the juggling of kids pick-up/dropoff/activities/work/life. I also try to choose products that contain safe ingredients with good EWG ratings.

Here’s what it looks like now! It changes over time and evolves with new products I find or love, but these are a lot of my tried and true faves.

5 Minute Skincare, 5 Minute Makeup Routine

daily 5 minute skincare

Night:

Makeup Eraser. This little thing is really a wonder. It works very well and helps in removing most of the makeup including eye makeup.

Blueberry Bounce Cleanser. I have super sensitive skin and this is one of the few that I can use all over my face (even around my eyes) without irritation.

toner. This toner brightens without drying. I would also use it once or twice a week.

Serum. I switch serums quite often and this is my latest fave for bedtime, and it’s my favorite morning serum.

Moisturizer. I’ll also swap moisturizers daily and usually alternate between Eminence and Beautycounter Supreme Cream.

Jade Roller and Gua Sha. I am in love with these and have noticed a difference in my skin texture with regular use. This IG account has lots of great tutorials on how to use Gua Sha.

Rose water spray. It’s hydrating and smells gorgeous. Here’s one of my favorite homemade facial sprays!

Routine Breakdown:

When I put on the headband, I heat up the water and put my hair in a messy bun.

– Dampen a makeup eraser and use it to thoroughly cleanse my face and neck.

– Apply Blueberry Bounce Cleanser to my hands, cleanse my face, rinse and pat dry.

– Use your fingers to gently press in toner, then serum, then moisturizer.

– Jade Roll and Gua Sha.

Mist with rose water spray.

Done in 5 minutes.

Every two nights:

Facial Oil. I would add this as a final step to doing lymphatic massage or gua sha on my face and neck. I also love pure argan or rose oil.

Peel off overnight. This is one of my holy grail beauty products. I use it after cleansing and before applying moisturizer. I use this instead of toner on these nights.

frown! My natural botox alternative 😉 I was very skeptical about trying these but I have noticed a huge difference in wtf lines in my forehead with regular use. I can’t use them everyday or I’ll break out, but every day or two, I’ll cover my head in these.

Red Light Face Mask! This thing is very relaxing and I love listening to podcasts while I lay in bed with it on. (If you want one, wait until Wednesday to buy it! The link is here and use FITNESSISTA15.)

Hairdose Red Light Face Mask Review

Weekly:

Charcoal face mask, AHA mask or Rose sheet mask (from Thrive Market). I put the mask on before I wash my face, usually when I get the girls ready for bed. On these nights, I just rinse off, remove my eye makeup, and top with moisturizer and/or face oil. (No toner.)

Dermaplane: I’ll do this about once a week on dry skin. It took me a long time to figure it out — and I’ve learned not to do it above my lip or it looks prickly and weird — but I think I finally got it. It’s so satisfying to get all the lil peach fuzz off my face.

When I get around to it (every few months to annually):

Get a facial with a charcoal cleanse and turmeric treatment. I recently got a facial after over a year, and I decided to make it a part of my quarterly routine. While I’d love to go monthly, it’s not realistic time-wise, but I can totally do it every few months.

BBL Ledger: I’ve done it several times and highly recommend it! I’m prone to small warts and small warts, and this clears them up. I have yet to find a place here in Tucson that I *love* (the last lady spent a LOT of time telling me I needed fillers and botox lol), so if you have any recs please send them to mine send way!

after bbl (ignore my eyebrows lol)

(After doing this, the spots turn dark like coffee grounds and go away gently)

Skin Check! It is important to mention here that you should have a head-to-toe skin checkup by a dermatologist every year, and if you notice any changes in your skin, as soon as possible. It’s a pain, but it’s worth it. do it!!

Everyday 5 minute makeup:

Daily Products:

Tarte BB Cream. It is a bit on the thicker/matte side but it has good coverage and I would combine it with an SPF

Skin Medica SPF. Decent material and works well.

Anastasia Brow Pencil or Beautycounter Brow Gel

Tarte Eyeliner. This is my favourite!

Tart Concealer. I might be the only person who hates Shape Tape and always comes back to this primer. I’ve also been using it as an eyeshadow primer since Tarte stopped making eye primer sticks.

Tarte Eyeshadows (Amazing deal on these right now! These are the most recent palettes I bought and I love them.) Tarte has created the best eyeshadows for my sensitive eyes. So many palettes make my eyes itch, and this is one of the few brands that doesn’t.

NARS Bronzer

beautycounter or this blush

Color Intense Lipstick (usually at Brunch), This Balm Tint (at Hang Ten), or Lip Gloss (in any color) — or a combo of all of them.

Special Occasion or Date Night Extras:

highlighter

Eyelash primer and mascara. I don’t wear mascara every day – I find that using it everyday makes my lashes look thinner and it looks better when I wear it – but a primer is a must. It makes a huge difference in length and fullness

Blink! I wear these on my outer lids for a little something extra, but appreciate that they still look natural

a darker color than one in my Tarte palette

Wow. And all!

So, tell me, guys: What’s your favorite beauty or skin care regimen right now? Please share stuff in the comments section! I always love hearing your recs for amazing products you love!
