Banana has the reputation of being the common man’s fruit. In India, I remember, when other fruits like apples, oranges and mangoes were out of reach for many, bananas provided energy, sweetness and satiety.
Nutrition-wise, bananas are no ordinary.
It’s loaded with natural sugars and nutrients to give you a quick recharge, but without the crazy side effects of candy or cola. Bananas also contain calming and relaxing nutrients like magnesium, vitamin B6 and tryptophan. So this will take you out of the frustration of hair loss and fill you with enthusiasm to make your own natural shampoo or hair mask.
Bananas also contain a good amount of fiber and pectin. If you’re looking and feeling bloated, both fiber and pectin can help. They encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria which in turn improve digestion and gut health. What are its side effects? Well, they are good – so much energy, slim figure and shiny hair and skin.
I’ve said more here about how amazing bananas are for our health, but now it’s time to talk about a banana hair mask—which I call a banana hair smoothie because it looks like one, and you Might be tempted to drink it. But save it for your hair for its hair boosting properties.

But how does banana stop hair fall??
Well, bananas are also packed with antioxidants in the form of carotenoids, flavonoids and other phytochemicals. These antioxidants help in getting rid of free-radicals that accumulate in our body as a part of regular metabolism. If free radicals exceed the body’s ability to get rid of them, it can cause a number of diseases, and can also lead to wrinkles, age spots, and thinning hair.
What is the solution ?? Bananas. But not just bananas, eating a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs can help neutralize free radicals. Also, applying them also helps.
You might not want to put cauliflower or mango in your hair, but you can put a banana.
Bananas are fantastic for hair growth, reducing hair fall and making hair smooth and shiny.
Banana hair mask is also endorsed by a famous actress – with thick, voluminous hair. I was listening to his interview where he mentioned that his favorite hair mask is not a store bought mask, but a simple homemade banana hair mask.
Ok, enough of praising bananas, let’s make and apply…
how to make banana hair Mask / Smoothie
Choose a ripe banana as it is easier to puree and easier to apply. You’ll also need honey for its moisturizing benefits. Honey also has healing properties on the scalp, so if you have flaky or dry scalp, honey will bring relief. Another ingredient for smoothies is yogurt. Use plain, full-fat and unsweetened ones. Curd will give bounce and volume to your hair.
Who can use this smoothie? Everyone. Whether you have dry or oily hair, fine hair or dry hair, a banana smoothie will work for you. It is a great combination of moisture, protein and nutrients.
you will need:
1 ripe banana (use 2 if you have long hair)
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp curd
1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, adds texture to fine, oily hair)
Blend all the ingredients to a smooth puree paste. I also like to strain through a mesh strainer after blending so that no bits are left over as they can get stuck on the hair.
how to use
You can use this smoothie on oily or non-oily hair. If you have greasy, oily hair, you can add a teaspoon of coconut oil. It helps in improving the texture and thickness of the hair.
Apply on your scalp and hair. Wear a shower cap or wrap your head in a muslin cloth or towel. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes, then wash off.
Wash your hair with homemade shampoo or any shampoo of your choice. As long as you have not oiled your hair, you will not need much shampoo.
Let it air dry and your hair will look thick, shiny and gorgeous. Repeat once a week and nourish your hair.
I’d love to hear how yours turned out… Let me know in the comments how this banana smoothie helped your hair,
