Joe McKay crushes 412.8-kilogram (910-pound) deadlift PR at Iron Wars VII – Breaking Muscle

With this deadlift, McKay won his personal “iron battle”.

As of now, Joe McKay has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the strongest professional bodybuilders of all time. The International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Pro League member made headlines in the past for being a versatile deadlifting dynamo after he once pulled 385.5 kg (850 lb) at Iron Wars VI in 2022. With a new year in full swing, McKay built on that feat of strength, painting the coming months could be even more fruitful.

It’s January. 13, 2023, McKay successfully deadlifted 412.8 kg (910 lb) During the Iron Wars VII competition in Signal Hill, CA. McKay’s Pulling Showcase a personal record (PR), It was one of the fitting title moments for strength personality CT Fletcher’s annual competition, which allowed various athletes to display unique strength. McKay used a traditional stance, wore a lifting belt and lifting straps to help with his pulling, and even attached weight plates to the ends of his overloaded barbells to provide enough of a challenge. was taped.

McKay’s staggering haul didn’t come without struggle. The athlete slowly grinds through his reps as he tries to reach the lockout, shaking notably as spectators crowd around his lifting platform to encourage the athlete to reach new heights. Eventually, on his successful pull, Mackay almost felt relieved, ending up nodding his head after he dropped the weight before turning away.

McKay offered a brief and proud reflection about his massive lift in a post on his Instagram. The bodybuilder/powerlifter had unsuccessfully attempted to pull the same weight during a training session less than a month earlier, making this deadlift feat even more significant.

“I was able to get the lockout, but I wanted to capture it with my distinctive smile on top!” McKay wrote. “Unfortunately, 910 pounds wanted to drag me down, but… we’ll make it count! I’ve been thinking about this lift day after day since I missed it a week ago! Nine hundred and ten pounds , much respect to you, but [expletive] now you! next!”

In terms of bodybuilding, McKay can separate himself from his peers and past icons with regards to deadlift prowess. Ronnie Coleman, an eight-time Mr. Olympia (1998–2005), received acclaim for his deadlift of 362.8 kg (800 lb) during the year 2000 while working towards a one-time Olympia title defense. McKay has since cleared that bar by leaps and bounds, but wasn’t particularly preparing for any major bodybuilding contests like the legendary Coleman.

Without official records of competitive bodybuilders testing their strength through the powerlifting prism, it’s unclear where Mackey’s latest PR deadlift stands in the history of the sport. However, this is one of the greatest pulls ever by someone who also makes it a point to show off his professional physique on a stage.

The year 2023 has started with a bang for Mackay. If this deadlift was his first significant move at the turn of the calendar, it probably won’t be his last in the months to come.
