Skincare-obsessed women swear by this one tweak to their sleep routine

I wouldn’t call myself a posh stan, but I do occasionally post Instagrams from the wellness brand founded by Kourtney Kardashian. It’s a veritable visual hodgepodge of aspiration, inspiration, punny hashtags (#pooshtheboundaries), and the occasional quote from Mrs. Barker herself. In that last category, a quick word of wisdom really struck me: If traveling anywhere for more than a night, Kourtney insists on bringing her best silk pillowcases.

I, the proud owner of both silk and satin pillow covers, have it in common with Courtney. It sounds like complete diva behavior, but once you discover the benefits (for hair and skin – anti-wrinkle) and feel the difference (percale can’t compare), you’ll never Wouldn’t want to sleep on anything else.

Why sleep on silk pillow?

In addition to the cool luxurious touch of silk against your cheek, silk pillowcases are said to reduce frizz, protect hair cuticles, reduce breakouts, and help prevent facial wrinkles.

It’s all about friction. The smooth nature of silk minimizes the back and forth rubbing of skin, lashes, and hair, so your blowout is protected for longer. And because silk absorbs less moisture than cotton, skincare products stay on your face—you’ll also reduce your chances of breakouts.

Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, so it is an excellent fabric choice for those with sensitive skin.

silk vs satin pillowcases

While sateen offers many of the benefits of silk (it’s breathable, hypoallergenic, and less absorbent than cotton), the major difference lies in how they’re made. Silk is a fiber produced naturally by silkworms (a process developed in ancient China). Sateen is, technically, a type of weave made from synthetic fibers such as polyester, rayon, and cotton.

The synthetic nature of satin makes it more affordable (while still providing the same benefits) and not as delicate as silk. This is a solid budget-friendly option.

Truth be told, I regularly swap out my silk and satin pillowcases, and — although silk is definitely an option silky-I hardly ever notice much difference.
