Tips For Shopping Target Designer Collection

We’ve come a long way with Target designer collections!

The year was 2015. It was midnight, and I was on my phone and computer trying to get to the Target website to shop the highly anticipated Lilly Pulitzer x Target collection. Since Lily didn’t have more sizes in their usual collection, I was really excited to be able to shop this collection, which was a size larger and definitely less expensive than the full brand. I woke up for hours as the site crashed multiple times, items in my cart disappeared, and by the end, I wasn’t sure what I had bought. This was my first experience buying one of these designer collaborations, and I learned many lessons!

There have been many more designer collaborations in the years since then, and thankfully I’ve become much more adept at shopping them. The next designer collection drops Sunday, October 9, with items from Sergio Hudson, Kika Vargas, and La Ligne. As I prepare to shop the sales, I thought I’d share some info, tips, and some of my favorite pieces.

Important information about Target Designer Collaborations:

  • They sell out quickly: These are limited quantities, and that means planning is required if you really have a few pieces you want to get your hands on. It is not uncommon for items to sell out within hours of launch.
  • Not all items and sizes in store: Some pieces are online only, and many sizes (especially pluses) aren’t always in store. Online shopping is my favorite way to
  • They usually launch at midnight Pacific3 a.m. ET, and in stores the same day: You can be one of the first in line at the store the morning of the launch to get your hands on the pieces, or you can set your alarm for the time and sleep back in when you finish it
  • The withdrawal period is limited to: Most of these deals have a 14-day return window, so be sure to keep an eye on the calendar and return promptly.

Tips For Shopping Target Designer Collaboration:

  • Browse the collection in advance and pre-save items: In the Target app or on Target.com, the collection pages will be up and running in advance of the launch dates. For example, here’s a link to yesterday’s archive. “Heart” each item you want to buy, and when it’s time to launch, skip all the scrolling and shop straight from your targeted Favorites page.
  • Buy only when the collection is low: Yes, this means you have to get up really early if you’re in Eastern Time like me, but things really do move fast enough that it’s the safest bet to get what you want.
  • View shipping or choose in-store options: Target.com obviously offers shipping of items, but you can also purchase items for same-day, in-store pickup. If all you want is instant gratification, in-store pickup means no browsing through racks and being able to enjoy items right away. It’s also helpful when a size isn’t in stock online, but may be at a store near you.
  • Size out of stock? Use the “Notify” feature. I’ve scored a lot of out-of-stock pieces using the “Notify me when back in stock” feature on the Target website or app. Select your size, and then click the Notify button. When the item is back in stock (for these collaborations, it’s usually a returned item), they’ll send you a push notification and email.

Favorites from Target’s Fall 2022 Designer Collection

Of the 3 designers for this collection, I’m most excited Sergio Hudson Pieces. The bold houndstooth coat will probably be the first item to be sold. I love the bold black and white pieces she has, as well as the saturated blue, pink, and yellow.

houndstooth dress
teal satin bodysuit
teal wide leg pants
wide leather belt
animal print trench coat

If you’re into super feminine details like florals, ruffles, puffy sleeves, scalloped edges, and bows, then the Kika Vargas collection will be right up your alley.

Target Designer Collaboration: Kika Vargas

The most casual (but still sophisticated) of the collection is from La Ligne, known for their signature stripes. These are easy, versatile mix-and-match pieces.
